* A custom 3D environment for students to traverse to access maths games.
House of Math is a gamified edtech platform that offers games, math essentials, boot camps, study techniques, and problem-solving tools. Their customers are young learners who subscribe to their website to use interactive learning apps.
They required an immersive 3D experience to function as an interactive menu that students could use to choose maths tasks to complete. The concept was not yet finalised, so the layout, flow and visuals had to be planned in pre-production while ensuring the experience could run seamlessly from the House of Math website.
Pre-production techniques typically used for animated films were applied to plan the experience, including an animatic video of the overall journey that was rendered for approval and a production pipeline defined before development began. A 3D artist created optimised models and textures so they would load efficiently in the 3D web app, while placeholders were used during development so the 3D engine could be coded in parallel. The result is an immersive and memorable experience for learners, with a feel comparable to a Nintendo game.
